Open Studio is designed for independent makers who want consistent access to a shared, professional workspace. These policies exist to protect the studio, the equipment, and the people working inside it.

By registering for Open Studio, you agree to the following.

• Open Studio is for experienced makers only
• Participants must have previous experience in their chosen medium
• No formal instruction is provided during Open Studio sessions
   

If you are new to a medium or need step-by-step guidance, workshops or private sessions are a better fit.

 For All Open Studio Guests

• Shared access to studio workspace
• Use of studio tools and equipment relevant to your medium
• A calm, focused, shared working environment
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which must be used as required
   

Medium-Specific Access

• Pottery makers: access to glazes,
•  Stained glass makers: access to cutting, grinding, and soldering stations and all glass materials
• Glass fusers: access to fusing workspace and all glass  materials

• Clay supply (pottery) 
• Kiln firings (pottery or glass)
• Instruction or demonstrations
• Material troubleshooting beyond basic clarification
   

Kiln firings are priced separately.

• Clay must be purchased from the studio
• Pricing: $30 / 25 lb bag
• Available in 4 colour options
   

Ordering & Delivery

• Clay is ordered and delivered once per month, during the final week of the month
• Failure to place your order before that deadline may result in a clay shortage
• It is each guest’s responsibility to ensure they have sufficient clay on hand
   

Storage & Labelling

• Clay bags must be labelled with first and last name on all sides
• Clay must remain at the studio between sessions
• Storage location:
  • Seasonal registrations: private locker
  • Single-visit guests: studio clay shelf

• All guests must be registered and paid to attend
• No unregistered guests are permitted
• No early arrival — please arrive at your scheduled start time
   

Season registrations are for consistent weekly attendance and do not include make-up sessions for missed time.

• You may share your clay supply with another registered Open Studio guest
• You are fully responsible for:
• Their actions
• Their behaviour
• Their work
• If they lack experience, you are responsible for teaching best practices

We provide PPE and expect it to be used properly at all times.

Glass Work

• Eye protection is required when cutting or grinding glass
• Smoke absorbers must be used during soldering
   

Pottery Wheel Use

• Hard-soled, closed-toe shoes required
• No baggy clothing
• No wired earbuds while throwing

General

• Personal listening devices are allowed
• No speakers
• No children under the age of 16 permitted in Open Studio

All guests are responsible for cleaning their own workspace.

This includes:

• Your work station
• All tools used
• Any shared equipment
   

Pottery Clean-Up

• Rinse tools in studio buckets first
• Then wash properly in the sink and leave to dry
• Pottery wheels must be wiped down
• All clay remnants must go into reclaim buckets
   

Failure to clean up properly will result in a $25 fee. No exceptions.

• Guests are expected to begin tidying during the final 30 minutes of the session
• All guests must leave on time
   

If staff are required to stay late due to late departure, a $25 fee will be applied.

Failure to pay clean-up or late-departure fees will result in dismissal from Open Studio without refund for the remainder of the season.

• One verbal warning will be issued for safety or policy violations
• Continued negligence will result in dismissal without refund for the remainder of the season

 These policies are in place to ensure:

• Clear boundaries and expectations
• A safe working environment
• Respect for shared tools and equipment
• A studio culture that supports focused, independent making
